As a Shutdown Approaches, Apple Recommends Dark Sky Users Switch To a New Weather app

The weather app Dark Sky, which Apple bought in March 2020, will be discontinued on January 1st, 2023.

To urge Dark Sky users to switch to the built-in options before the app's planned sunsetting, Apple is notifying users of the closure and has also released a support page showing the Dark Sky capabilities included in the Weather app.

In iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, the Weather app now has access to the Dark Sky app's features. Apple has released weather modules that include additional details on humidity, precipitation levels, visibility, wind speed, and more.

These modules also include hourly predictions for the next ten days and down-to-the-minute precipitation forecasts for snow and rain.

According to Apple, high-definition weather maps and hyperlocal weather predictions are available. Apple has warned of the upcoming Dark Sky shutdown for several months.
