KytyPS5 Achieves 60 FPS in GTA 5 for PS5 Despite Stability Issues

The PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 has been demonstrated on PC through the KytyPS5 emulator. This development marks a move toward making the “Expanded and Enhanced” version of the title—previously a console exclusive—available in a Windows environment, with the emulator already achieving 60 FPS in at least four other PlayStation 5 titles as of September 2026.

While a native PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 has existed since 2015, Rockstar Games never officially ported the 2022 “Expanded and Enhanced” (E&E) upgrades to the platform. These console-exclusive features include Hao’s Special Works (HSW) vehicle upgrades, improved lighting, and ray-traced shadows. For many enthusiasts, emulation represents the only current path to accessing these specific graphical and gameplay updates on PC hardware.

Recent emulation benchmarks utilized top-tier PC components to bypass console-exclusive performance locks.

According to reports on X (Social Media Platform), recent demonstration footage utilized a high-end hardware configuration featuring the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor and a Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D has increasingly become a preferred choice for complex emulation tasks due to its large L3 cache, which helps manage the heavy instruction translation required to bridge the gap between the PlayStation 5’s architecture and standard PC components.

Stability Hurdles and the North Yankton Wall

Despite the recent demonstrations, the emulation remains in a pre-playable state. Reports indicate that the software consistently crashes after several minutes of gameplay. Specifically, the crash typically occurs during the North Yankton prologue, just before the initial police encounter.

Technical analysis suggests these failures are likely tied to the emulator’s current difficulty handling complex AI pathfinding and physics triggers alongside high-resolution assets. The North Yankton sequence is often the first milestone for Rockstar game emulation because of its linear scripting, which places less stress on the system than the massive overhead required for the game’s main open-world environment in Los Santos.

KytyPS5 is currently one of several projects attempting to bring ninth-generation console titles to the PC. As of September 2026, at least four other PlayStation 5 titles have achieved the 60 FPS mark on the emulator. While KytyPS5 employs a high-level approach to achieve playable speeds, another project known as SharpEmu is focusing on low-level accuracy. SharpEmu prioritizes precise system replication over individual game compatibility, though it generally trails behind in terms of raw frame rate performance for major AAA titles.

The ongoing development of KytyPS5 represents a step forward for the project, though substantial optimization of the emulator’s core stability will be required before the full “Expanded and Enhanced” experience can be played from start to finish on a PC.
