World of Warcraft: Forever Launches November 4 With New Zones and Level 60 Cap

Published on:

Blizzard Entertainment has officially unveiled World of Warcraft: Forever, a third permanent version of the long-running MMORPG that expands the original 2004 setting without moving past its mechanical roots. Scheduled for a global launch on November 4, 2026, the game represents the formal realization of the “Classic Plus” concept, offering a branching timeline where the world grows while the level cap remains firmly at 60.

The road to launch begins this week with a closed beta scheduled to start on Thursday, September 17, 2026. While access to the game will be included with any active World of Warcraft subscription at launch, players can secure guaranteed entry into the beta by purchasing the Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99) or the Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99).

New Races, Zones, and Class Combinations

The centerpiece of the new content is the Skyborne, a neutral playable race that players can eventually align with either the Alliance or the Horde. The expansion also introduces class combinations previously unavailable in the vanilla era, specifically Undead Paladins and Dwarf Shamans, providing new utility for both factions in high-end raiding.

Geographically, the world of Azeroth is expanding to include three significant new zones: Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle, and The Riverglades. These areas are designed to fit seamlessly into the existing world map, offering new leveling paths and endgame hubs that did not exist in the original 2004 release or its subsequent Classic re-releases.

Technical Engine Overhaul

While the gameplay is intended to preserve the “vanilla” feel, Blizzard is implementing several modern technical upgrades. Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Forever will feature an engine overhaul that includes global illumination and volumetric effects.

Crucially for enthusiasts of the original aesthetic, the game will include an SD/HD character toggle. This allows players to choose between the original low-polygon models from 2004 or the high-fidelity models used in the modern retail version of the game.

Roadmap and Endgame Content

Blizzard has already outlined the first wave of endgame content and long-term support for the new mode. The initial raids for World of Warcraft: Forever are scheduled to unlock on December 9, 2026. This includes the 10-player Barrow Deeps and the 20-player version of Hyjal Summit.

By maintaining the level 60 cap, Blizzard aims to keep original gear and dungeons relevant indefinitely, even as new raids and zones are introduced to the Forever ecosystem.
