Neon Giant, the Swedish studio behind the isometric shooter The Ascent, has pivoted toward the immersive sim genre with its upcoming title, NO LAW. The project is a first-person open-world FPS RPG that emphasizes player agency and handcrafted environmental storytelling.
Slated for a 2027 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, NO LAW places players in the boots of Grey Harker, an ex-military veteran. The narrative follows Harker’s attempt to live a quiet life in the vertical, industrial city of Port Desire, only to be pulled back into a cycle of violence.

The game is designed with the core tenets of the immersive sim genre, offering multiple solutions to every objective. According to the developers, players can navigate challenges through stealth, hacking, infiltration, or direct combat. These decisions are not merely tactical; helping or “flatlining” certain NPCs results in permanent world consequences and alternate story paths.
What has drawn significant attention from critics is the scale of the project relative to the size of the team. Neon Giant consists of approximately 24 people, a remarkably small group for a title with the visual and mechanical scope of a AAA production. To achieve this, the studio is utilizing Unreal Engine 5.8, leveraging advanced features such as Nanite, Lumen, and MetaHuman to create a dense, “cyber-noir” atmosphere.
While many modern studios are turning to automated tools to fill large open worlds, Neon Giant has reportedly committed to a “no generative AI” policy for its art assets. The studio maintains that every item in Port Desire—from drink bottles to address labels on packaging—is handcrafted by human artists.

This technological push is intended to support the developer’s “no wrong way to play” philosophy, ensuring that whether a player is sneaking through a ventilation shaft or engaging in a high-stakes shootout, the world remains reactive and visually consistent.
With its heavy focus on player choice and its rejection of procedural generation in favor of manual craftsmanship, NO LAW is positioning itself as a major contender in the RPG space for 2027.
