Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance Overhauls Hunting Horn with New Boosted Actions

Published on:

Capcom is introducing a significant mechanical overhaul for the Hunting Horn in the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion. This update marks a shift for the traditionally support-oriented instrument, repositioning it as a high-mobility, aggressive offensive tool through the introduction of the Boosted Action system.

The centerpiece of this update is the Boost Bracer, a new gear piece in the Ascendance expansion that enables “Boosted Actions” across all 14 weapon types. For the Hunting Horn, this system facilitates a more kinetic playstyle, allowing hunters to maintain pressure on monsters while simultaneously providing buffs to their party. The most prominent new maneuver, the Boost Driver, allows the player to perform a “rock and roll” style powerslide across the battlefield before slamming the weapon down to emit a powerful sonic wave.

Enhanced Mobility and Offensive Mechanics

The transition to the Boosted Action system addresses long-standing community feedback regarding the Hunting Horn’s perceived lack of speed compared to other heavy weapons. Key additions for the weapon include:

  • Boost Driver: A mobility-focused attack where the hunter slides across the ground to close gaps, finishing with a high-damage sonic slam.

While the new moves emphasize damage and speed, the Hunting Horn retains its core identity as a buffing tool. The sonic waves generated during the Boost Driver and other high-intensity attacks continue to apply traditional melodies to the hunter and their teammates, integrating support seamlessly into the offensive flow.

Release Timeline and Expansion Context

The Ascendance expansion is scheduled for release in 2027, serving as the major follow-up to the base game. This development coincides with a broader push for the franchise, including the upcoming launch of Monster Hunter Wilds on the Nintendo Switch 2, which is set for December 4, 2026.

Narratively, Ascendance takes place several years after the conclusion of the base game’s storyline. It features a matured version of the character Nata and introduces a new high-altitude locale known as the Skybound Eyrie. The expansion’s plot is driven by the return of the colossal Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung, a classic monster whose presence serves as the primary catalyst for the new campaign. Players will likely need to progress through the base game’s major milestones before accessing this Master Rank content when it arrives next year.
