Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage project, Physint, has found a new home with Xbox Game Studios. The development follows a decision by Sony Interactive Entertainment to step away from the title, marking a significant shift for a project originally announced as a deep collaboration with PlayStation and the broader Sony Group.
The transition began in mid-June 2026, when Sony notified Kojima Productions that it would cancel the Physint project. This notification initiated a three-month search by Kojima for a new publishing partner, culminating in the agreement with Microsoft’s gaming division.

According to an announcement on Xbox Wire, the partnership extends beyond traditional game publishing. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who assumed leadership of the division following Phil Spencer’s retirement earlier this year, confirmed that the deal includes collaboration across film and television. This multi-media approach replaces the previous arrangement that would have involved Sony’s Columbia Pictures.
Physint—a title derived from a portmanteau of “physical intelligence”—is currently in development at Kojima Productions. The studio has confirmed a release sequence that places the launch of its horror project, OD, before Physint.
While official casting details have not been finalized by the studio, reports suggest that the project may feature actors Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe.

The move reinforces Kojima’s growing ties with the Xbox ecosystem. While other projects, such as Death Stranding 2, remain under the publication of Sony Interactive Entertainment, the transition of Physint ensures that Kojima’s return to the action-espionage genre will be part of the Xbox Game Studios portfolio.
