Hamster Corporation has released Nobunaga’s Ambition II for the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the 1990 strategy classic to modern hardware. Part of the developer’s recently expanded preservation initiative, the title launched September 10, 2026, priced at $7.99.
Originally developed by Koei for 8-bit home consoles, this sequel expanded significantly on the scale of its predecessor. The simulation challenges players to unify Japan’s 38 fiefs by commanding approximately 400 real historical samurai. The title is noted for introducing a multi-scenario system and refined HEX-based battles that encompass both open-field skirmishes and complex siege warfare.
The modern digital re-release includes both the original Japanese and localized English language versions in a single package. As part of the Console Archives offerings, the game features several quality-of-life improvements provided by Hamster. These include a dedicated rewind function to undo tactical errors, multiple save points, and customizable button layouts with rapid-fire settings. Visual options also include CRT filters designed to mimic the appearance of vintage 8-bit television displays.
The launch of Nobunaga’s Ambition II follows the early 2026 debut of the Console Archives series, which serves as a companion to Hamster’s long-running Arcade Archives line. This preservation effort focuses on bringing historically significant home console titles to current platforms with high-fidelity emulation, ensuring that foundational strategy titles remain accessible to new audiences.
