How to Trade Stocks and Crypto on X Using Cashtags

Published on:

X has transitioned from a social media platform to a financial routing layer with the launch of its Cashtag Partner Program on September 15, 2026. This update allows U.S. users to trade stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies by tapping ticker symbols, such as $TSLA or $BTC, directly within their timelines.

While the platform previously offered market data and price charts through eToro, this expansion introduces a multi-partner roster for actual trade execution. The initial group of execution partners includes Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo.

How Cashtag Trading Functions

The integration acts as a non-custodial interface rather than a direct brokerage. When a user clicks a Cashtag, they are presented with real-time market data and a “Trade” button. Tapping this button does not execute the order on X’s servers; instead, it redirects the user to the partner brokerage’s app or website to complete the transaction.

By serving as a routing layer, X avoids the direct regulatory requirements of a custodial broker while providing its partners with a massive pool of retail traffic. For example, Interactive Brokers has integrated with the system to allow seamless hand-offs, even offering a $100 incentive for new U.S. clients who open and fund an account through a Cashtag link.

Security and authentication remain the responsibility of the third-party providers. Users must log in to their respective brokerage accounts to authorize trades, ensuring that sensitive financial data and asset custody stay within regulated environments.

The “X Money” Ecosystem

The rollout of Cashtag trading is a central component of the broader “X Money” initiative. This financial push reached a significant milestone on September 1, 2026, when the platform mandated that all U.S.-based creators receive their payouts for ad revenue sharing and subscriptions through the internal X Money system.

To support this infrastructure, the company has secured money transmitter licenses in more than 40 U.S. states. This licensing allows X to move closer to its goal of becoming an “everything app” by facilitating peer-to-peer payments and storage of funds within the ecosystem.

The ability to move from viewing a creator’s post to trading a related asset—and eventually using creator earnings to fund those trades—creates a closed-loop financial environment that the company intends to scale globally as it secures further international regulatory approvals.
