Xbox Launches Mythic Achievements to Reward 100% Completion Retroactively

Published on:

Microsoft has officially introduced “Mythic Achievements,” a new tier of digital recognition for the Xbox ecosystem that serves as a direct counterpart to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophies. The feature, which rewards players for earning every achievement in a game’s original list, bridges a nearly 20-year gap in the Xbox Gamerscore system by providing a distinct visual marker for 100% completion.

Currently rolling out to Xbox Insiders before a general public release, the Mythic system is designed to reward both current efforts and historical milestones. Unlike standard achievements that contribute to a cumulative Gamerscore, a Mythic Achievement acts as a permanent badge of honor for completing a title’s “base” list of challenges.

Retroactive Completion and the Xbox 360 Legacy

One of the most significant aspects of the rollout is its retroactive nature. The system is designed to scan a user’s entire library, reaching back to the Xbox 360 era. Players who completed titles over a decade ago will find those accomplishments automatically recognized within the new framework.

The interface for these awards is housed within a revamped “Gaming” tab in the Xbox profile. Here, completed titles are showcased with a “heroic frame” and visual progress bars that distinguish them from games still in progress. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently demonstrated the feature on social media, showcasing the unlock process using the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day as a primary example.

Protection Against DLC and Title Updates

A common frustration for completionists in the modern era is the introduction of Post-Launch Downloadable Content (DLC). In many systems, adding new achievements to a game can “break” a player’s 100% completion status. Xbox is addressing this by tying Mythic status exclusively to the base achievement list, which typically totals 1,000 Gamerscore at launch.

According to Windows Central, this ensures that once a player earns a Mythic badge, it cannot be revoked or locked behind future paid updates. While players can still pursue DLC achievements to increase their total Gamerscore, the Mythic status remains a permanent fixture on their profile once the original requirements are met.

While the feature is currently limited to those enrolled in the Xbox Insider program, Microsoft has indicated that the general public will receive the update at a later date.
