Animation studio MAPPA has created the key visual for the opening animation of Attack on Titan 3, a title positioned as the definitive conclusion to the decade-long gaming adaptation. The artwork serves to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the franchise while highlighting the narrative weight of this final entry.
The game’s narrative covers the entire story, spanning from the Scout Regiment’s earliest battles through to the final moments of the series’ conclusion.
Elite Animation Staff Returns
The production of the opening cinematic marks a significant collaboration between the gaming series and the anime’s veteran talent. Crunchyroll News reports that the animation is being directed by Arifumi Imai, who served as the action director for the anime series and is widely credited with defining the high-speed visual language of the Omni-Directional Mobility (ODM) gear sequences.

Release Schedule and Technical Requirements
Koei Tecmo has confirmed that Attack on Titan 3 is scheduled for release on December 10, 2026.
In a departure from standard release structures, the MAPPA-produced opening animation will not be available at launch and will not be included on the physical disc or in the initial launch files. Players will instead receive the cinematic through a free post-launch update. While the game itself will be fully playable on day one, this specific piece of high-end animation is being finalized for a later delivery.

Purchase Incentives
The title arrives eight years after the release of the previous mainline entry, 2018’s Attack on Titan 2. To mark the return of the series, several customization items have been announced for early adopters. Digital pre-orders are set to include “Wings of Freedom Earrings” for character customization, while those who make an early purchase will receive a “Wings of Freedom Hoodie” item.
By incorporating the full scope of the manga and anime’s ending, Attack on Titan 3 is intended to replace previous iterations as the most comprehensive way to experience the story in an interactive format. Unlike previous expansions that added story branches, this entry is built to encompass the complete journey of the Scout Regiment from beginning to end.
