No Man’s Sky Update 7.00 Patch Notes: Cosmos Adds Space Station Directorship

Published on:

Hello Games has released No Man’s Sky Update 7.00, titled “Cosmos,” marking the 10th anniversary of the game’s original August 2016 launch. Released on September 9, 2026, the update transforms the role of space from a transitional area into a functional, exploitable map through the introduction of Space Station Directorship and expanded exploration mechanics.

The “Cosmos” update is available across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Mac, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Space Station Directorship and Exploration

The central pillar of Update 7.00 is the ability for players to own and customize their own space stations. This “Space Station Directorship” allows for a new level of permanence and resource management within a chosen star system. To support this deeper focus on local space, a new star system map has been added to the Quick Menu, providing a more detailed view of the immediate vicinity without needing to warp.

Movement in space has also been overhauled. Spacewalking now features six degrees of freedom, including the ability to roll, allowing for more precise navigation while outside a ship or frigate. For those focused on resource gathering, the Analysis Visor and scanner tags have been updated to stop tracking terrain deposits once they are depleted, reducing UI clutter during planetary exploration.

Expedition 23: Our Journey Continues

To celebrate a decade of development, Expedition Twenty-Three, “Our Journey Continues,” launches with this update. This milestone expedition features developer commentary from Sean Murray, reflecting on the game’s evolution since its 2016 debut. While previous major updates like Update 4.0 (Waypoint) introduced features such as Relaxed Mode, this anniversary event focuses on the community’s progress and the “Cosmos” overhaul.

Players can also earn rewards through a new round of Twitch Drops, which are scheduled to run from September 10 to September 14, 2026.

Technical Enhancements and DLSS 4.5

Update 7.00 introduces support for the latest upscaling technologies, including NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and Intel XeSS 3. Technical analysis indicates that DLSS 4.5 utilizes 4X Multi Frame Generation to improve performance on compatible hardware. These additions are aimed at maintaining visual fidelity during the new, more complex space station rendering and expanded spacewalking sequences.

Patch 7.01 and Initial Fixes

Shortly following the major release, Hello Games deployed Patch 7.01 on September 10, 2026, to address immediate stability issues. This hotfix focused on several day-one bugs identified in the “Cosmos” expansion, including:

  • Resolved instances of geometry clipping within player-owned space stations.
  • Fixed visual bugs affecting tractor beam effects.
  • General stability improvements for the new star system map.

This update reinforces the transition of No Man’s Sky into its second decade, moving the gameplay loop closer to active space management and refined interstellar navigation.
