Pinterest Launches Restyle AI Beta to Transform Personal Photos into Shoppable Room Designs

Published on:

Pinterest officially introduced “Restyle” on September 17, 2026, a generative AI feature designed to transform how users plan home renovations and interior design projects. Currently in beta for users in the United States and Canada, the tool allows individuals to upload a photo of their actual living space and use AI prompts to visualize complete aesthetic overhauls.

The feature goes beyond simple filtering. Users can modify their photos by adding furniture, swapping out decor, or changing wall colors through specific text prompts. Whether a user is looking for a “bohemian” layout or a “dopamine decor” aesthetic, the AI generates a stylized version of the room that maintains the original architectural layout while replacing individual elements. This move signals Pinterest’s transition from a digital mood board toward a functional design platform where users can iterate on their own environments in real-time.

Restyle is part of a broader push to connect inspiration directly with commerce. Alongside the redesign tool, the company announced Visual Search Ads, which integrate performance advertising directly into search results and individual Pin closeups. With more than 80 billion searches occurring monthly on the platform—over half of which reportedly carry commercial intent—the goal is to surface shoppable products that match the AI-generated visions created by users.

The platform’s new capabilities are powered by an infrastructure known as “Pinterest Intelligence.” This framework utilizes Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Nvidia Dynamo to process complex generative tasks and visual searches. The technical upgrade arrives as Pinterest reports reaching 640 million monthly active users worldwide, with Gen Z now representing more than half of the total audience.

The launch took place during the annual Pinterest Presents advertiser summit, where the company also confirmed a second season of its CTV series, “Bring My Pinterest to Life.” By providing tools that allow users to erase, replace, and redesign objects within their own photos, Pinterest is positioning itself as a primary utility for home planning. This strategy leverages the fact that approximately 96% of searches on the platform are unbranded, giving the AI-driven Restyle feature significant influence over the discovery of new products and retailers during the early stages of a home project.
