Spike Chunsoft has announced that Danganronpa 2×2 is scheduled for release on January 14, 2027. The title, a significant reimagining of the second entry in the killing game franchise, will be available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Beyond visual upgrades, the release introduces a substantial new narrative component called “Slayhem Mode.” This alternate scenario features the same cast and tropical setting as the original Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair but operates under a completely different timeline. In this “what-if” history, players will encounter entirely different victims, culprits, and murder methods than those seen in the 2012 release.

Reports have centered on a character named Sakutaro Higashi, who is reported to act as a “Hijacker” of sorts within the Slayhem scenario. Reports indicate that Higashi’s presence is designed to disrupt the established flow of the story, even going as far as demanding the halting of Class Trials.
Slayhem Mode is not a minor addition; the scenario volume is approximately 20% larger than the original game’s script. The mode was written by Yoichiro Koizumi, working from concepts developed by series creator Kazutaka Kodaka and Takekuni Kitayama. Because of the nature of the alternate history, the new content is generally recommended for players who have already completed the original narrative to fully appreciate the subversion of expectations.

The game is being released by Spike Chunsoft. While the game will launch on the current Nintendo Switch, the version for the successor console is expected to offer specific technical enhancements.
According to RPGFan, the introduction of the Slayhem scenario into the core narrative represents one of the most significant shifts in the series’ history. Reports concerning Higashi and the expansive Slayhem scenario suggest that Danganronpa 2×2 is being positioned as a standalone expansion of the lore rather than a standard remaster.
