YouTube 2026: New Hype Feature and AI Tools for Mid-Sized Creators

Published on:

YouTube is shifting its platform strategy from a passive broadcast model toward a social ecosystem where fan engagement directly fuels creator growth. At its annual “Made on YouTube” event held on September 23, 2026, the company introduced a suite of tools that allow viewers to act as curators and promoters while giving creators more granular control over their communities.

The cornerstone of this shift is “Hype,” a discovery feature designed specifically for mid-sized creators with between 500 and 500,000 subscribers. Unlike the traditional “Like” button, Hype points contribute to a weekly, country-specific leaderboard of the top 100 videos. This system allows fans to actively boost their favorite emerging channels into a localized spotlight.

The new feature uses fan points to create localized leaderboards for emerging creators.

YouTube is also overhauling the comment section to make it more interactive across different devices. Starting this fall, users will be able to search a dedicated library to post GIF comments on both standard videos and Shorts. For those watching on the big screen, a new voice-to-text feature for the YouTube TV app will allow viewers to dictate comments using their remote’s voice commands, removing the barrier of navigating an on-screen keyboard.

To help creators manage these more active communities, YouTube is testing “opt-in AI-powered comment moderation.” This tool is designed to learn a creator’s specific style and community preferences over time, automatically filtering or highlighting interactions based on that individual’s unique tone.

For viewers, the discovery experience is becoming more conversational through “Custom Feeds.” Initially limited to U.S. users, this feature allows fans to create personalized homepage tabs using natural language prompts, such as “evening wind down with long documentaries” or “high-energy workout tutorials.” According to the YouTube Blog, these updates are intended to help viewers dive deeper into specific interests that the general algorithm might not prioritize.

Creators are also receiving a significant upgrade to their analytical toolkit in YouTube Studio. A new “Video A/B Testing” feature goes beyond simple thumbnail comparisons, allowing creators to test up to three different video cuts. This enables them to see which introductory “hook” or editing style retains viewers most effectively before committing to a final version.

Other notable updates announced for the 2026-2027 roadmap include:

  • Likeness Protection: Tools for monitoring and reporting unauthorized AI duplicates of a creator’s voice or face are moving to mobile, allowing for faster response to deepfakes.
  • Global Shopping: The YouTube Shopping affiliate program is scheduled to expand to 35 countries by the end of 2026.
  • Live Auto-Dubbing: A pilot program for real-time translation and dubbing during live streams is expected to launch in early 2027 to help creators reach international audiences instantly.

These updates represent a strategic move to solve the “discovery hurdle” for creators who have moved past the initial startup phase but have not yet reached the multi-million subscriber tier. By giving fans the tools to “hype” content and create their own algorithmic feeds, YouTube is decentralizing how content finds an audience.
