The Vocci Ring, a titanium wearable designed to automate meeting notes and audio capture, is now available for public purchase. Developed by Gyges Labs—the team founded by Stanford and UCLA Ph.D.s previously responsible for Halliday Smart Glasses—the $249 device attempts to solve the friction of digital note-taking by placing a dedicated recording interface on the user’s hand.
The hardware is constructed from titanium on both its inner and outer surfaces, weighing between 3 and 5 grams depending on the size. Unlike many smart rings that focus on biometric health tracking, the Vocci Ring is built around a single MEMS microphone with a 5-meter pickup range. It relies on a physical button for interaction: a double-click starts or stops a recording session, while a single click allows the user to tag specific moments for the AI to highlight later.
Technical Integration and AI Protocols
One of the ring’s distinct technical features is its support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This integration allows the audio transcripts and summaries generated by the ring to be fed directly into external AI assistants like ChatGPT or Claude. Rather than keeping the data siloed within the Vocci companion app, the ring functions as a real-world context layer that can provide information to a user’s existing digital workflow.
The ring offers up to 8 hours of continuous recording on a single charge. Its accompanying charging case provides an additional three full recharges before the case itself needs to be plugged in. The device is also rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, making it durable enough for daily wear outside of professional environments.
Subscription Tiers and Ownership Costs
While the hardware requires a flat $249 purchase price, the device’s long-term utility is tied to a tiered subscription model for AI processing. The “Starter” plan is free and includes 300 minutes of recording per month. For heavier users, the “Plus” tier costs $15.99 per month for 1,200 minutes, while the “Pro” tier is priced at $29.99 per month for unlimited recording. The initial $249 purchase includes a one-month trial of the Pro membership.
Privacy and Operational Trade-offs
The Vocci Ring’s discreet form factor introduces specific operational and legal considerations. Because it is a jewelry-based recording device, it lacks the obvious visual presence of a smartphone or laptop recording app. To address this, the hardware includes a recording light indicator; however, this light is positioned to face the wearer rather than the room.
This design makes the status of the device difficult for others to see during a conversation. In regions with two-party consent laws for audio recording, users must be diligent about manual disclosure, as the device does not provide an audible or outward-facing visual alert to participants that their conversation is being captured.
