Sony and Santa Monica Studio have confirmed that pre-orders for God of War Laufey will go live tomorrow, September 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM local time. The title is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
While previous entries in the franchise offered elaborate physical collector’s editions featuring statues and maps, the rollout for Laufey signals a change in strategy. Sony has revealed two primary tiers for the game: a Standard Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. Notably, the Digital Deluxe version is a digital-only exclusive, meaning there is no physical “Special Edition” tier for this release.

Edition Breakdown and Pre-Order Bonuses
The Standard Edition will be available in both physical disc and digital formats. Players who purchase any version of the game before launch will receive the “Last Wish” armor set, the “Phranque Golden Leaves” cosmetic for a new companion mechanic, and an in-game resource pack to assist with early progression. These items are unlocked through story progression rather than being granted immediately upon starting the game.
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the following digital content:
- Dark Alchemy armor set
- Dark Alchemy blade and bow scales
- Dark Alchemy catalyst
- Digital mini artbook
- Official digital soundtrack
The lack of a high-end physical collector’s edition aligns with reported internal roadmaps suggesting Sony may phase out physical game disc production for new releases by January 2028. This makes God of War Laufey potentially one of the final entries in the series to receive a physical disc release at all, even at the standard tier.
New Mechanics and The Everywhen
The upcoming title introduces the Serpent Bow, a primary weapon that utilizes the DualSense controller’s pressure-sensitive triggers. Players can toggle between rapid-fire shots and high-precision aimed shots based on how far the trigger is depressed.

The narrative is set in a realm known as “The Everywhen,” a crossroads that brings Laufey into contact with deities from various cultures. Santa Monica Studio has confirmed the appearance of the Egyptian war goddess Sekhmet and the Mongolian god of war Begtse. Players will also interact with “Phranque the Cube,” a new mechanic or companion that can be customized with the pre-order cosmetic skin.
While the story serves as a prequel to the 2018 Norse saga, it focuses on Laufey’s unique combat style, which developers state is distinct from the heavy, grounded approach used by Kratos.
