Sony Opens Playtest Sign-ups for Project Espresso After Reported Fairgame$ Delays

Published on:

Sony’s long-dormant live-service heist shooter, originally announced as Fairgame$, has seemingly resurfaced under a new identity. A playtest listing has appeared for a title codenamed “Project Espresso,” which bears the unmistakable hallmarks of Haven Studios’ competitive project.

The listing describes Project Espresso as a third-person PvPvE competitive action game centered on infiltrating high-security locations to steal cargo. While the listing uses a codename, it requires participants to link a PlayStation account, signaling direct first-party involvement from Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Project Espresso is widely rumored to be Fairgame$, the heist-themed title first revealed by Haven Studios in 2023. The project has been notably absent from Sony’s public showcases for years, including a high-profile absence at the State of Play held on September 3, 2026. This new playtest suggests the game is moving into a more active phase of development despite a history of internal shifts and reported delays.

The emergence of the “Project Espresso” moniker follows a series of significant changes at Haven Studios. Reports indicate that studio founder Jade Raymond departed the company in May 2025, a move that coincided with a shift in the game’s internal release window. Originally targeted for 2025, the title was reportedly pushed to 2026 following internal feedback and a need for further refinement of its live-service loop.

There is also growing evidence that the game may be undergoing a permanent rebranding beyond its temporary codename. Earlier in 2026, Sony filed a trademark for “Break In,” a title that aligns closely with the game’s core mechanics of infiltration and theft. The use of “Project Espresso” for this current playtest cycle likely serves as a placeholder identity while the studio prepares for a formal re-reveal under its final name.

Sony appears to be tightly controlling the project’s visibility as it prepares for its revised 2026 launch window. For now, the playtest represents the first tangible evidence that the project has survived its leadership transition and remains a core part of Sony’s live-service portfolio.
