Jupiter Corporation has announced Picross S Climax, a massive compilation title serving as the finale for the long-running digital puzzle series. Scheduled for release on December 10, 2026, in Japan, the game is being developed for both the current Nintendo Switch and its upcoming successor, the Nintendo Switch 2.

This entry marks a significant milestone for the franchise, transitioning from a digital-only series to its first-ever physical release. While the current Switch version remains digital, the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be available as a physical “Game-Key Card.” Pricing for the Japanese market is set at 2,980 yen for the digital edition and 3,480 yen for the physical Switch 2 version.

The Ultimate Compilation: Puzzle Count and Content

Picross S Climax acts as a “best-of” collection, featuring 1,020 curated puzzles originally found in the first nine entries of the Picross S series (S1 through S9). In addition to this legacy content, Jupiter Corporation has confirmed the inclusion of 40 high-difficulty bonus puzzles, bringing the total count to 1,060.

Accessing these bonus puzzles requires players to link save data from previous Picross S titles. The game also introduces a new “Extra” mode, which features a significantly larger 40×30 grid for players seeking a more complex challenge. Multiplayer support remains a core feature, allowing up to four players to solve puzzles simultaneously using standard button controls.

Next-Gen Capabilities on Switch 2

While the game will be playable on the original Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is designed to leverage new hardware capabilities. Jupiter Corporation has confirmed that the next-gen version will support “Joy-Con 2” mouse controls, offering a different method of input compared to traditional D-pad or analog stick navigation. The Switch 2 version will also retain full touchscreen functionality for handheld play.

The decision to bring the series to the Switch 2 highlights a shift in distribution strategy for the developer. By offering a physical “Game-Key Card,” Jupiter Corporation is providing a collectible option for a series that has existed exclusively on the Nintendo eShop for nearly a decade.
