Treyarch has released update 2.06 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on September 25, 2026, across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This update shifts the competitive landscape by lifting restrictions on the VMP SMG in Ranked Play and significantly reducing the uptime of the Boat Exclusion Zone on Fortune’s Keep in Warzone.
Ranked Play Meta Shifts with VMP Un-restriction
The most impactful change for competitive players is the removal of restrictions on the VMP SMG and its specific attachments in Ranked Play. The VMP is a legacy Black Ops submachine gun known for its high rate of fire and mobility, and its reintroduction into the legal gear pool provides a new high-cadence alternative to the current SMG meta.
Warzone: Fortune’s Keep and Pacing Changes
Major adjustments have been made to the Boat Exclusion Zone on Fortune’s Keep to accelerate match pacing. The duration of the exclusion zone has been reduced from 140 seconds to 80 seconds, representing a 42% decrease in active time. Additionally, the number of available uses for the exclusion zone has been lowered from three down to two. These changes limit the ability of squads to lock down specific water-based areas for extended periods.
A specific combat interaction in Warzone has also been addressed: players are now prevented from detonating C4 while in the Last Stand state. This removes the “from the grave” explosive kills that previously occurred when downed players used pre-placed charges.
Bug Fixes and Zombies Adjustments
The 2.06 update includes several targeted fixes for weapon behavior and map-specific issues in the Zombies mode:
- Warden 308 Revolver: Fixed an issue where the Akimbo fire-mode toggle was reversed.
- Rex Infernus (Zombies): Resolved a bug where the Z-Rex would become stuck out of bounds during the Boss Rush phase.
According to the official Call of Duty patch notes, these changes are now live across all supported platforms. Players on previous-generation consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One should expect a standard patch download to accommodate these balance changes and asset fixes.
