The Boba Teashop: Refill Shifts to Psychological Horror for 2027 Release

Published on:

Serafini Productions and Mike Ten have announced The Boba Teashop: Refill, a standalone follow-up to the original shop management title. Revealed during the “28 Games Later” Horror Showcase hosted by Insider Gaming, the project is scheduled for a 2027 release window on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

While the first game was often categorized as “cozy horror,” the sequel is being marketed more heavily as a first-person psychological horror experience. The story moves away from the original protagonist to follow Maya, a new employee working at a second branch of Risa’s boba shop. As Maya handles the daily operations of the cafe, the gameplay is expected to lean further into psychological tension and environmental storytelling.

Connections to the BrokenLore Universe

The announcement confirms that The Boba Teashop: Refill serves as a bridge to Serafini Productions’ broader “BrokenLore” horror ecosystem. The developer has confirmed that Hideki, a central character from the BrokenLore series, will appear in the game, further intertwining the narratives of their various horror titles.

This expansion of the lore suggests that the boba shop setting is not merely a backdrop for management mechanics, but a localized entry point into the supernatural elements established in previous Serafini projects. The 2027 timeline gives the developers a significant window to build out these narrative links across the franchise.

Content Creator Cameos

In addition to its narrative shifts, the sequel will feature a variety of cameos from notable figures in the gaming and horror community. The developer revealed that the game includes appearances by content creators such as Suzi Hunter (The Sphere Hunter), Yotobi, Knite, and Kodomo. These cameos are expected to be integrated into the world of the teashop as Maya interacts with the shop’s clientele and the surrounding environment.

As a standalone sequel rather than a downloadable content expansion, Refill is designed as a complete experience that builds upon the foundations of the original game while focusing on a more aggressive horror tone. Fans of the first title can expect the familiar loop of tea preparation to be increasingly disrupted by the psychological elements that define the new direction.
