Elden Ring Update 1.17.1 (Build 1.019) Fixes Tarnished Pack DLC Exploit

Published on:

FromSoftware has released Elden Ring Update 1.17.1, a targeted hotfix designed to address a specific multiplayer exploit. Arriving on September 8, 2026, the update is identified as build 1.019.000 or 1.018.001 on consoles and is live across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.

Multiplayer DLC Exploit Resolution

The primary purpose of version 1.17.1 is to resolve a multiplayer glitch that allowed players who do not own the Tarnished Pack DLC to obtain exclusive DLC items under specific conditions. As this update serves strictly as a technical hotfix, it does not include any new gameplay content or balance adjustments. Comprehensive balance changes were previously deployed during the major version 1.17 update on August 27, 2026.

According to reports from VICE, the fix ensures that the premium items introduced in late August remain exclusive to those who have purchased the content. Players will need to apply this update to continue using the game’s online functionality.

Tarnished Pack and Version 1.17 Background

The exploit targeted items from the Tarnished Pack, which was officially supported starting with the August 27 update. That major patch introduced two new starting classes: the Idus Knight and the Heavy Knight.

The Tarnished Pack also includes “Spectral Steed Attire,” providing cosmetic options for Torrent. These skins include:

  • Tree Sentinel
  • Silver of Caria
  • Funereal Night

While version 1.17.1 does not alter the stats or performance of these items, it corrects the distribution flaw that allowed ineligible players to circumvent the DLC requirement during multiplayer sessions. No other stability or performance fixes were included in this specific deployment.
