EA Sports has released update 1.010 for NHL 27, serving as the Day 1 patch for the game’s retail launch on September 10, 2026. Available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the update focuses on expanding commissioner control in Connected Franchise mode and finalizing authentic presentation elements for several teams, including the debut of the Utah Mammoth branding.
Authentic Presentation and Team Identity
The 1.010 update introduces authentic Jumbotron content for 23 NHL teams. Most notably, this includes the first appearance of the Utah Mammoth and Seattle Kraken authentic arena displays. This addition ensures that home games for these franchises reflect their real-world branding and visual identity during breaks in play and goal celebrations.
Broadcast commentary is also seeing an expansion. According to reports from Shacknews, EA Sports is utilizing AI voice technology, with the consent of the talent, to increase the variety of lines recorded by John Buccigross and Darren Pang.
Connected Franchise Updates
Commissioners in Connected Franchise mode receive significant new tools to manage their leagues. The update introduces manual override options, allowing commissioners to specifically apply “Force OT Win” or “Force SO Win” results to games. These tools provide more granular control over league standings when games cannot be played as scheduled.
The logic governing Free Agency has also been adjusted. League members can now place bids that temporarily exceed their available salary cap. This allows for flexibility during the bidding process, though the bids must be compliant before daily processing occurs.
Gameplay and Passing Logic
Update 1.010 clarifies the mechanics of the passing system by separating how power is calculated based on player settings:
- Manual Passing: Pass power is now fully determined by the user’s input and hold time.
- Auto/Non-Manual Passing: Pass power is automatically determined based on the distance to the intended target.
A specific fix has also been applied to physical play. Previously, players hit by an opponent using the Truculence X-Factor would occasionally trigger an unintended “winded” getup animation. This patch prevents that specific animation from occurring, streamlining the recovery time after big hits.
New Equipment and Gear
Players can now access new authentic equipment for both skaters and goaltenders. The additions include:
- True Catalyst Nitro: New goalie stick and glove set.
- CCM Tacks XR: New player skates added to the customization suite.
These changes are currently live across all supported platforms as part of the NHL 27 Update 1 rollout.
